Annexation is Apartheid
On July 1st, 2020, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu plans to annex all West Bank settlements. Annexation is the term applied when a state unilaterally proclaims its sovereignty over other territory. (BBC) Illegal Israeli settlements are communities of Israelis in the West Bank, they are illegal under international law. (Amnesty International).
According to reports, Israel’s goal is to eventually annex 30% of the West Bank starting with 3% this July. Even these beginning stages will leave some Palestinain villages and towns enclaved by Israeli land making them an open air prison.
The map below shows the West Bank where over 2.5 million Palestininas live and over 100 illegal Israeli settlements are located. With this annexation, around 5% of Palestinians will be surrounded by what is to become Israeli land under Israeli sovereignty.
Maps of the West Bank continue to shrink with Israel building settlements, outposts, and now annexing. This is a clear violation of international law and previous agreements. The Trump Administration blindly supports Israel with no regard to the international community or lives on the ground. Current annexation plans have only come to life after Trump’s Middle East “Peace Plan” that attached a vague map of Israel and the West Bank.
We reject Trump’s so-called “peace plan” and the annexation of the West Bank that blatantly dismisses the value of innocent Palestinian lives, violates international law, and aims to erase a reality and people as if they never existed.
